The games are on and so is the betting. The UEFA Champions League is a popular soccer tournament between eight of Europe’s best teams. The quarter-finals have begun and punters are eagerly following the football gamble odds so they can begin betting vigorously. So which teams are in the lead? Well even before the draw could be announced, the teams to beat appear to be the ever popular Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The reining champs Barca qualified in a snap for the quarters scoring 10 goals in their past two games. The German team Bayern Munich proves to be the biggest threat to these two tough Spanish contenders. Chelsea is the only English team in the final eight and they made it to the quarters despite their terrible performance in the domestic season that left them in 5th place in the English Premier League.

The online betting sites have already given indications that the quarter-finals will be show Chelsea to the door, but of course it all depends on who they are drawn to play against. Call it expert precision or just plain dumb luck. Whatever it was, it was quite the sight when Everton’s goalkeeper Tim Howard scored inside his own area giving them the lead against Bolton in the Premier League. Tim’s clearance bounced 30 yards from Bolton’s goal and, with the help of the wind, flew over visiting keeper Adam Bogdan. However dramatic this moment may have been, Howard did not seem to be in the mood to celebrate the goal. This is only the fourth time in history that a goalkeeper scored in the Premier League and it was Howard’s 250^th appearance for Everton.

England face Bulgaria in a Euro 2012 qualification game tonight. It’s an important game that England should win even with a few new faces in the England squad. Smalling, Jones and Cleverley, all from Manchester United, and other new call ups will be hoping to make a big impact tonight. The United youngsters have been awesome this season so far and after crushing Arsenal 8-2 last weekend they will be in good spirits.

The Vasil Levski Stadium in Sofia is where all the action will take place. Bulgaria will be missing Berbatov, another United player, after recently retiring from international football. Let’s hope it will be a quality game to watch. Anyone taking any big bets tonight?

Manchester United a mile ahead of Liverpool

So Manchester United fans have been teasing Liverpool fans after winning a record 19 titles. The photo above shows you how a few Man United fans changed a motorway sign that illustrates United overtaking Liverpool with league title wins. Quality!

The road sign on the southbound M6 near Junction 24 has Liverpool 18, Manchester 19 – the number of times each team has been crowned champions in the English top league. Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United won the Premier League title last weekend by drawing 1-1 with Blackburn.

Another way the Manchester United fans taunted Liverpool fans was by unveiling a banner at Anfield during the Liverpool – Spurs game that had “MUFC 19 TIMES” on it. See photo below from David Buxton.

Learning how to gamble on football (soccer for all you Yankees) is easy, but it is important that you follow these simple tips below so that you can win more regularly, even if your team doesn’t. You need to master 2 aspects when it comes to betting in football. The first is the mechanics of betting and the other is money management.

Instructions

1. Set yourself a budget for gambling on football and don’t go over that budget! This will help you in the long run.

2. If you are winning, set a profit amount. The reason for this is that once you reach this amount, you can then withdraw your original capital and then you can just bet with you winnings, so you don’t lose your initial capital.

3. Decide on a max limit that you will bet with on a single game.

4. Do some research on the teams playing that you are betting on. Playing away or at home makes a difference; and players injured or banned could affect the team performance. The history of results between the teams will be a good guide to you as well.

5. Check on the form of football teams. Momentum plays a big role in a team’s performance so if a team is on a winning streak then they will most likely be the team to bet on.

6. Check on the match fixtures and schedules. A team, like Barcelona, will play a lot more games than a lower ranking team because they will last longer in tournaments, which means more games for them.

7. Find out if the match is important to the team. If a team needs to win, then they will really go for it, but a team not needing to win then they could rest players and take it easy during the game.

8. A good time to bet is when a team concedes a goal. The odds will then be better for the team losing compared to when the game started. This is good for good teams that uncharacteristically let in a goal.

The English teams were given tough draws in the football Champions League last 16 draw. The Gunners (Arsenal) face Spanish greats Barcelona in a repeat of last years last 16 football game. This is a huge task for the young lads from London. Manchester United face French team Marseille which is a good draw for Utd, but Spurs were handed a toughy with AC Milan. After beating Inter Milan earlier in the group stages Spurs head back to the San Siro. Let’s see if Bale can do his magic again. I doubt it. Chelsea play Copenhagen and this should be an easy game for the Londoners.
